The optometric resident will work in a variety of clinics, including one day in a primary care clinic with the remainder of the week being spent working in the various subspecialty ophthalmology faculty clinics which may include medical and surgical retina, glaucoma, cornea and external disease, oculoplastics and neuro-ophthalmology services. The ultimate goal is to prepare the resident for a career in optometric practice, which may include co-management/consultative referral clinics, academic education, primary care settings, and to serve the profession as leaders in the optometric community. The residency will provide training in the clinical diagnosis and management of ocular disease, which will allow the residency graduate to deliver the highest quality in patient care. This is accomplished by providing the optometric resident the opportunity to experience a wide diversity of ocular disease through observation and direct patient care in primary, secondary, and tertiary care clinics which is further complemented through didactic education.
